For the Love of MJ

Peter B. Parker arrived back at his late Aunt May’s house, well, late. He was attempting to sneak in through the back when he was busted by his ex-wife he’s attempting to repair his relationship with, Mary Jane Watson-Parker. She called him out on sneaking in to avoid taking responsibility for the recycle bin he’d forgotten to role out. Peter B. attempted to breeze over the situation, trying to avoid a fight, but MJ revealed, while she didn’t want to fight either, there was a much bigger issue at hand that needed to be addressed. She posed a question to Peter B: If he couldn’t handle one simple task, then how could she count on him to be there when the time came to raise a family. She wanted him to be there for her. She just wanted him to try.

Instead of answering, Peter B. chose to walk away. And just as MJ was calling him back, he was gone in a flash. Something really weird had happened to him. Again. He was sucked back into the Spider-Verse, where he found himself face to face with Miles and all of his other Spider-Friends, along with some new ones! Unfortunately, they were fighting six super villains at the time, so like any other Spider-Man, he… noped out of there and sat out the fight. He was sure the other guys had it handled.

Instead, Peter B. tracked down the Spider-Lair of the perfect blonde Peter Parker the team had used as an HQ in their first mutliversal adventure. He had intended to prepare for all of the Spiders to come after the fight, but upon entering he realized that would require a lot of work. He was about to call it quits, but a picture of the other Peter’s MJ reminded him of the last words his wife had spoken before he vanished: “I just want you to try.”

So he tried. Peter B. worked all day to restore the Spider-Lair back to its previous state. When he was nearly done, another, another Mary Jane entered the lair in a Spidey-Buggy, mumbling about a confrontation with a Peter that definitely wasn’t hers. Excited to see her, Peter B. convinced this MJ to let him pour his heart out about his failings with his own MJ. Though it was very therapeutic for him, the other MJ walked away frankly confused and weirded out.

Finally finished, the Spider-Lair had been restored, and was from this point to be known as the brand new Spider’s Nest. Peter B. changed into a more comfortably fitting outfit, and was soon greeted by Miles Morales, who stated the other Spiders were right behind him. Miles congratulated Peter B. on Spider’s Nest, noting it looked great. And Peter B. thanked him, letting him know that he tried.

Amazing Friends

Soon after, everyone joined Miles and Peter B. in the Spider’s Nest, including a new Spider-Man who was eager to meet everyone. Well, almost everyone… When confronted by the new Spider-Man about not being seen during the battle, Peter B. quickly came up with an excuse, saying he had a lot going on in his dimension. Unfortunately, this gave the Spider-Man the idea that Peter B. could travel dimensions, and he asked if he could help him get back to his. Peter B.’s gut reaction was to do no work. At any time. Ever. But even he couldn’t ignore a Spidey in need.

Recruiting Ghost-Spider, the two searched tirelessly for Spider-Man’s dimension, only to find the worst possible outcome: that it had been destroyed. Peter B., thinking quickly once more, told Spider-Man he’d need the Super Collider to get him back home, delaying the inevitable. But even he knew that at some point, they’d have to tell Spider-Man that his world was gone.

Secret Santa

When the Green Goblin destroyed Christmas, Peter B. was tasked with hiring a new Santa Clause to grant the children’s Christmas wishes! Unfortunately, the agency decided to tack on a $300 hazard fee, as Santa had been traumatized by the Green Goblin. Knowing a scam when he sees one, Peter B. was quick to cut the transaction short, and inform the kids that Santa Clause would not be coming.

This obviously did not go well, and the kids began crying. Peter B. attempted to quell their disapointment by informing them that Santa Clause wasn’t even real. That really didn’t go well, and the kids only began to cry harder. Peter B. tried to ignore them, but simply couldn’t just leave sad children behind.

So with a fake Santa beard, and a fake Santa hat, Peter B. strode out looking just like Saint Nick! He first let little Annie up on his lap to tell him what she wanted for Christmas. He was completely taken aback when he discovered that all Annie wanted was for her father to be happy after her mother had left them. Peter B. informed Annie that she didn’t need Santa to do that, and a hug from his daughter who loved him very much was all her father needed to feel joy.

The interaction with Annie left Peter B. speechless. He finally began to wonder, if it was possible for him to one day be a father himself. The little boy next in line, however, was a stark reminder of the reality of raising children.

Renew Your Vows

Some time had passed, and eventually, Peter B. and MJ’s anniversary swung around. The day really got Peter B. in his feels, he really started to miss his wife and was regretting their last encounter being an argument. Miles, who figured he owed a lot to Peter B., recruited Spider-Man and Gwen to plan a surprise for his friend and mentor.

The three kids set up a date, and Mary Jane showed up at May’s house above the Spider’s Nest, taking Peter B. completely by surprise, and informing her ex-husband that he had once more hit the jackpot! Peter B. was so excited he slammed the door in her face!

After… calming down from all that excitement, Peter B. welcomed MJ in, and the two began to talk. Old stories and years of memories came flooding back, as the two made up for lost time. When MJ asked why it took so long for him to reach out, Peter B. admitted the kids invited her over, and that he was too scared he’s screw up again to even face her. He believed she was bette roff without him. Mary Jane quickly put this doubt to rest, and made sure Peter knew that they were better together.

But the life of Spider-Man is never that simple. The rekindling couple were soon forced out of the house as it began to fill with gas, and they were soon ambushed by the Green Goblin. The Goblin began boasting about how the gas was actually a chemical agent to remove Peter B.’s Spider-Sense, but to his surprise, Peter B. was unfazed. He revealed he’d been Spider-Man for two decades, and his Goblin had already pulled this stunt years ago. Peter B. was well in possession of the knowledge to make an antidote, which led the Goblin to the conclusion that he had to be the first Spider to die!

Goblin led a ruthless assault, but again, Peter B. handled the situation with ease, as this was nothing more than standard operating procedure for him. The Goblin’s fighting and methods were routine at this point. In a quick mixup, Goblin was finally able to surprise Peter B. and nab Mary Jane!

But MJ had been in Spider-Man’s world just as long as Peter B. With a coordinated attack, she and Peter B. were able to take down the Green Goblin once and for all. MJ was left excited after the battle, but refused an offer from Peter B. to join the team, revealing some wonderful news: She was pregnant. Peter B. was overcome with joy, happy that he would soon be a father.

After all was said and done, the loving couple sat in May’s house, going over potential girl names, Peter B. even recalling Annie from Christmas. The pair finally settled on one they both loved: Mayday.
