After the Falcon unleashed the power of the Infinity Gauntlet onto Earth-84061, the Space Stone tore a rift straight to the Dark Dimension, opening a path for Dormammu to return to Earth.
Doctor Strange corralled this dimensional rift in the Sanctum Sanctorum, and beckoned fellow magic users Jericho Drumm, aka Brother Voodoo, and Nico Minoru to assist him in closing it. But before they could begin, Bleecker Street came under attack from the Green Goblin, Morbius the Living Vampire, and the Man-Thing. Strange deduced that Dormammu had summoned them together to aid his escape, and was correct, as moments later, the Dread One himself burst from the rift.
After swiftly besting Strange, he vowed to drown the entire dimension in darkness, starting with Bleecker Street. Strange ordered Jericho and Nico to continue to close the rift while he dealt with Dormammu and his team. Strange, however, quickly found himself outnumbered. Just as Man-Thing had him backed against a wall, the Daywalker himself Blade arrived to provide aid. Shortly after, Strange’s roster of heroes was bolstered as monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone, the Spirit of Vengeance Ghost Rider, and Fist of Konshu Moon Knight all arrived to join the fight. Strange headed back to the Sanctum to help close the rift, and left his new team to deal with Dormammu.
Blade made quick work of Morbius, doing what he did best. Moon Knight took down Green Goblin. And though Dormammu’s Flames of the Faltine enhanced Man-Thing to no longer need his victims to fear him in order to burn them, Elsa’s Blood Gem protected her, and she was able to bring down the swamp monster.
However, Dormammu would not so easily accept defeat. He tore Strange from the Sanctum and in a burst of powerful energy, took down all of the heroes. As he began to gloat, Strange found the strength to stand against the demon, and invoked his most powerful weapon, the Eye of Agamotto. At the same time, Jericho and Nico managed to reverse the rift, and Dormammu was returned to the Dark Dimension, forever.
Because Dormammu had been controlling Morbius, Blade allowed him, just this once, to go free. Moon Knight, on the other hand, informed Goblin he’d be going straight to the RAFT. Elsa checked on Man-Thing, confirming he back to his normal self, and sent him his way back to the swamp.
In the Sanctum, Strange thanked his new team of heroes. Dubbing them the Midnight Suns, he sent them forth on a mission to close more rifts opening up all around the globe, while he himself went to investigate who had been toying with the Infinity Stones. The newly formed Midnight Suns took their new mission in stride.
However, in the bowels of the RAFT, the Green Goblin burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter. When questioned by a guard, Goblin noted that Dormammu had promised him a fight with Spider-Man, but the Web-Slinger never showed. This led him to the only logical conclusion: Spider-Man had gone missing.
