Gamerverse Spider-Man Marvel Legends

So I got these two bad boys yesterday, the Velocity Suit Spider-Man and the Spider-Armor Mk III (aka the Ends of the Earth armor). And I have to say, I’m in love. Not only are they a great expansion to my Gamerverse collection, but they are welcome additions to my ever-growing Spider-Verse.

The Spider-Armor Mk III is a suit I’ve been waiting for in figure form since I read the Ends of the Earth arc back in 2012. It took 8 years, but I finally have this guy, and I couldn’t be happier.
The Velocity suit, now that’s one that grew on me. When I first saw it announced as a pre-order bonus for Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4, I was like, “Nah.” But when I got the game, and saw it in action, and then read the comic behind its creation, I gained a new appreciation for the duds. It looks really sleek, cool, and it’s earned it place among my Legends.
Now the only drawback I can think of is that there’s no interchangeable hands. Honestly, at this point in the game, Hasbro knows better, and I hope an oversight like this doesn’t happen again. It really limits posing and what I can in my videos, you know?
That being said, I can’t think of any other reason to dislike these figures. Definitely a must-have for Spider-Man fans and Legends collectors alike! They get an Ultimate from me!
As for the web effects that each Spidey came with, well, all I can say is I wish I’d had them years ago! (Demoed beautifully on the new Vulture figure below!)

Marvel’s Avengers: Iron Man- What I Learned from the Prequel Comic
So I picked up the first prequel comic to the Marvel’s Avengers video game coming out this May. It centered around Iron Man trying to figure out who stole his operating system and was selling it to criminals. The real takeaway, however, was that this is our first real look into the world in which this game takes place, so I wanted to go through and point out a few things that I noticed and thought were interesting.

Well-Oiled Machine
Remember the opening scene in Age of Ultron where the Avengers were pretty much unstoppable until Hawkeye got hit? Yeah, well, I feel that level of cohesion here. Cap actually uses the word cohesion now that I think about it…
Either way, the Avengers are kind of getting their butts kicked by some D-listers (Titania, Absorbing Man, Whirlwind, and Beetle) before they kick into gear. I’m talking callouts, co-op, buddy moves. The particularly fun one is ‘Jade Wall’, where Iron Man slammed Titania into Hulk’s massive body.
Normally, this would just be the Avengers teaming up and stopping bad guys. But since this is a precursor to a video game, one has to wonder if these team-up moves will integrated in gameplay? I would like to fly people into Hulk’s chest at Mach 5!

Tony v. Bruce
We’ve seen a scene in the game where game where Tony and Bruce were at each other’s throats, which I thought was due to the rather extraneous circumstances. But in this comic, Tony and Bruce get into a heated argument when Tony implies Bruce let his tech slip to S.H.I.E.L.D.
I suppose that this means the two don’t necessarily get along, even before the events of A-Day. This is a far cry from the ‘Science Bros’, but could make for some interesting, and dramatic, storytelling.

S.H.I.E.L.D.
Speaking of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury (who has hair like in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) talks to Iron Man about a deal they had, working together. It seems he and Bruce were working on something big at a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility (in New York), and we know that S.H.I.E.L.D. lent the Avengers the Chimera Helicarrier used on A-Day. I feel that S.H.I.E.L.D. might have more of a presence in the game than we’ve seen so far.
I would also like to note that Beetle was imprisoned in The Vault, which is a famous Marvel prison. I guess since they used The Raft in Marvel’s Spider-Man, they wanted to make sure there was a distinction in their supermax facilities.

Cliffhanger Ending
So, spoiler alert, it turns out that Spymaster was the one stealing Tony’s software. That’s because S.H.I.E.L.D. was secretly scanning Iron Man, Fury noting that he and the Avengers possessed too much power for there not to be contingencies.
Iron Man stopped Spymaster, but he went down letting Tony know that they lived in the Information Age, and his final words were: “Too much data, Stark… you can’t keep it safe.”
I wonder if Tony’s OS being out in the wild is a plotline they’ll pull on in the game, or if maybe it contributed to the tragic events of A-Day. Either way, it was real ominous, and I think there’s more to it.

Well, that’s it for me True Believers. Did you spot any other interesting tidbits in the comic? Let me know in the comments below. Face Front, and I’ll see you in the Multiverse!

Secret Wars: How to Play
Here are the rules on how to participate in Secret Wars! Watch the video below or keep reading for more detailed instructions.
Signing Up
Sign up or log in to your Face Front Account
Head to the HQ and click on Secret Wars. This will take you to the Secret Wars home page.
Once on the Secret Wars home page, choose your faction, it is the first option marked with this image:
More details and alternative methods of choosing a faction can be found on this page.
Once you have chosen S.H.I.E.L.D. or HYDRA, head back to the Secret Wars home page and click on the War Zone corresponding to the faction you chose. The S.H.I.E.L.D. War Zone will look like this:

The HYDRA War Zone looks like this:

Playing the Game
Once inside, leave a comment listing either your city and state, or simply your state. Ex: Phoenix, Arizona or Arizona. You are free to leave other comments, such as communication with teammates and strategy details, but the only comments worth points are those with a location.
NOTE: You may only do this once per month, and it must the state you live in.
At the end of the day, any new submissions will be counted towards your state. The state on the map will then change to either blue or red, depending on which faction you claimed it from.
The total number of S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA agents for the month will be listed at all times.
If a state is claimed by the other faction, you may reclaim it by recruiting friends to your cause! For example, if one HYDRA agent claimed Phoenix, Arizona, the state would become red. However, and you and another S.H.I.E.L.D. agent both list a city in Arizona, there would then be 2 S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in the state, and it will turn blue.
NOTE: There must be at least one more agent of a faction than the other in order to reclaim a state.
If you have been recruited by another agent, reply that agent’s original comment so that you both can earn extra points!
Scoring
At the end of the month, everything is scored.
Agents = 1 point
States = 10 points
Whichever faction wins for the month gets to vote on an Infinity Stone that their faction can use to help them in the Secret War.
The winning team for the month will get Face Front Tokens to use in the Token Shop, exclusive Avatars for Face Front, and more!
Individual agents that recruit other agents to the cause will receive bonus rewards.
VS Mode
At certain points in the month, VS mode will go up for 24 hours. During this mode, the state for each faction with the fewest number of agents defending it will be contested.
To participate, you must go into the VS War Zone when it appears and comment with either Attack or Defend. You may only comment once.
If the state being contested is from your faction, you must comment Defend to maintain your hold over it. If the the state belongs to the other faction, you must comment Attack to seize it from your opponent.
Assist bonuses from Marvel heroes or villains will be applied to this mode. Voting on an Assist will occur on Face Front Twitter and Facebook pages.
After 24 hours, if more agents for either faction showed up to attack or defend, your faction will either maintain the state, capture it, or lose it to the other faction.
NOTE: Keep an eye on Face Front’s social media and Secret Wars updates to figure out when VS Mode is taking place for the month.

Black Widow Teaser
So the new Black Widow teaser trailer dropped! To commemorate this moment, I dug my Red Guardian figure out of the pile of Marvel Legends he was sitting in, a figure I only bought for the Giant-Man Build-A-Figure, and took this picture!

I posted it on my Marvel Legends action figure group, but all anyone could talk about was Taskmaster’s suit missing the mark! Not one comment on how awesome my picture was! So I gave in and made this:

Anyways, here’s the trailer, in case you’ve been living under a rock! The long and short of it: Looks awesome, love Widow’s new suit(s), Yelena had better steal the show, the Red Guardian suit looks legit, and I hope Taskmaster’s powers are represented well.

In Defense of MCU Spider-Man

No disrespect to Tobey, I grew up with those Sam Raimi films. In fact, the first Spider-Man movie is the reason I love Marvel today, the reason Face Front exists! But I have to say I agree with the common consensus: Tobey is a great Peter Parker and a love letter to the Stan and Steve era of comics. Andrew was a great Spider-Man and more in line with the Ultimate comics. Tom Holland, however, is an excellent balance of both Peter Parker and Spider-Man, merging the best of the 616 and 1610 universes. But the problem I often come across is people believing that since Tobey is their favorite, Tom’s version of Spider-Man doesn’t count. Or, as some put it, “Not my Spider-Man”.
I’ve been quiet on this matter for a while, but I think I finally have to address the hate Tom’s Spidey gets. I feel it’s completely baseless and unwarranted. People who complain usually flock to the same argument; they say he’s the ‘Iron-Boy’ and doesn’t do anything independently for himself. That Tony holds his hand and it takes away from him being Spider-Man. Well news flash: Tony’s dead. And whoever still holds this mindset clearly wasn’t paying attention to Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Let me pitch this at you: You’re a 10-year-old science nerd, and everyone makes fun of you for it. You don’t fit in with the other kids, and it gets kind of lonely. To cheer you up, your Uncle Ben tells you about Tony Stark, the most successful man on the planet, because he’s a science nerd, like you. Then, in 2008, that rich and successful science nerd you looked up to as your idol becomes a superhero. So wouldn’t your first instinct if you suddenly became a superhero as well be to become the man you’ve idolized for years? Hence the line in Spider-Man: Homecoming “I just wanted to be like you.”
Were any of the Tom-haters actually watching the Tobey Maguire movies? Remember when Peter introduced himself to Norman Osborn? He spoke admiringly of his research in the now heavily parodied “Something of a scientist myself” scene. So imagine if Norman hadn’t become the Green Goblin, but figured out Peter was Spider-Man. Don’t you think we’d have the same situation on our hands? Norman using Oscorp resources to help Peter be the best Spider-Man he can be? If Norman was good guy, then Spider-Man probably would have ended up looking more like this:

What about Spider-Man 2? Peter stated that Octavius was an idol of his, a scientific genius he looked up to. So let’s say Otto didn’t become Doc Ock, and he figured out Peter was Spider-Man. Don’t you think he would have helped Peter become… wait for it… a Superior Spider-Man? Like in the Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 game? Octavius would have taken Peter under his wing, then Spider-Man would probably have looked something like this:

Even in The Amazing Spider-Man. Peter admired Dr. Connors, he read his book, he helped him with the cross-species genetics. So, let’s pretend Curt didn’t become the Lizard. Don’t you think the Tony/Peter relationship would play out with Connors and Peter? Then how would Spider-Man look? You guessed it, like this:

So the only difference between Tony and Norman, Otto, and Curt is that he didn’t become a super villain! So, Peter’s science genius idol in the MCU who figured out he was Spider-Man hooked him up with his best gear to help him become the best Spider-Man he can be. So what did he look like? Like this:

But now, with Tony gone, Peter is forced into the situation he was in the previous movies. Now he’s on his own, and you can tell even from his physicality alone in Far From Home that he’s already grown into a fully functional and independent superhero. So what if he used Stark tech to make his suit? He used Oscorp tech to make his web-shooters in Amazing Spider-Man. And so what if he gets help from some Avengers from time to time? Did he not go to Harry in Spider-Man 3 to get help fighting Mega-Sandman and Venom? Spider-Man in the MCU is just as much Spider-Man as the other two franchises. The thing is he now lives in a world where the Avengers exist, so those circumstances alone are bound to change the fundamentals of his heroics. But at the end of the day, it’s indisputable that whether you like Tobey, Tom, or Andrew, they all have one thing in common. They are all Spider-Man.
